Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu has attacked Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen over his sentiments on Dennis Itumbi's arrest. In a tweet on Wednesday evening, Mr Wambugu asked Murkomen to remain silent and let the police do their work.

"Why do you sound like you know why @OleItumbi was arrested for, Mheshimiwa? Why not let DCI/FBI tell us what is happening? In fact, I would actually advise you to keep quiet and watch like the rest of us, unless you are a party to this story," he said.

Mr Murkomen had opined that Dennis Itumbi's arrest was a diversion from the ongoing investigations to nab people behind the fake letter that sparked claims of a plot to assassinate Deputy President William Ruto.

The Senate majority leader argued that the State wants to intimidate Mr Itumbi so as to divert the public's attention.

"Arrest of @OleItumbi is a strategy to divert attention from the La Mada meeting & plan. Was there a meeting? Did PS in charge of DCI say Ruto must be stopped Saitoti way? Who complained about assassination? And to who? The authenticity of the allegations is more important than a letter," said Murkomen.

Itumbi, who works at the office of the DP as the secretary for digital communication was arrested on Wednesday in Nairobi by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over alleged links to the fake letter.
