Mildred Naliaka who lost her daughter in the Monday morning tragedy at Precious Talent School has opened up on how her daughter had requested to skip school.
According to Naliaka, her daughter Whitney Wekesa was adamant on going to school on Monday and she even refused to take breakfast in the morning; something which was unusual.
When Naliaka managed to convince the seven-year-old girl to go to school, she returned and asked for money to buy snacks.
“She came back and asked me to give her money for snacks. I told her I didn’t have money and persuaded her to go back to school,” Nalika recalled.
She went back to bed for a little rest but was woken up by neighbours discussing the tragedy.
She rushed to school with the hope of finding her daughter alive only to find her lifeless body of her daughter lying on the ground.
“I fought to take her body and leave with it, but they restrained me and refused,” said Naliaka amind tears as she recalled how her daughter's body was wheeled to the morgue as she watched.
Eight students have been confirmed dead and 64 injured in the tragedy.
A task force has been formed by Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha to investigate the incident.
