Detectives in Migori County are holding a middle-aged woman for allegedly selling her newly-born baby.
According to Migori County Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Njeru Nyaga, the woman was arrested after he transacted with other suspects believed to be notorious child traffickers.
The court records seen by Citizen Digital indicate that the three suspects Lucresa Magabi, an evangelist in Tanzania, Jackson Onchari, and Dorcas Nyanchora were arrested as they tried to escape with the baby.
The three according to police were nabbed at Isebania border point as they made attempts to cross with the baby to Tanzania.
Migori DCI held that the suspects had been charged in another case with child trafficking.
On Thursday, a court allowed investigators seven days to continue detaining them pending completion of investigations.
The suspects are detained at the Isebania Police Station pending their arraignment in court on Monday next week.
Meanwhile, Kenacha Principal Magistrate Linus Mesa ordered that the 45-day-old baby be taken care of at the Gentle Shepherded Children’s home in Mabera.
The court will give directions on the case, Monday next week.
