Deputy President William Ruto on Friday lashed out at People Daily over its cover story titled; 'Uhuru and Ruto Now Headed for a Clash Over BBI'.
The DP was infuriated by the contents of the piece that painted him as a man opposing the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
In a tweet, Ruto stated that BBI has been politicised to suit political cults and personalities as opposed to ideas and issues.
"NONSENSE. The politics of personality cults that breed negative ethnicity & division as it poisons our nation are primitive and beneath us. We will agree as Jubilee established as a national movement which elevate our discourse to the realm of IDEAS & ISSUES and not personality," the DP's tweet that was accompanied by a photo of the newspaper's story read.
According to the publication, there are factions within the ruling party each having a varied view of BBI's recommendations on constitutional changes.
However, Ruto said that the initiative will only be helpful to Kenyans if citizens will be given an opportunity to air their views.
"As a democratic society the proposals by BBI will be subjected to an open national conversation where every voice (the weak/strong, the small/big) will be heard. Those working hard to create new fault lines, an us verses them 'clash' will fail soo miserably they will be shocked!" he noted in another tweet.
