Ahead of Jubilee Party's March election, politicians allied to Deputy President William Ruto are keen to take over the leadership of the party with Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali now fronted for the top seat.
A key Ruto ally, the veteran lawmaker is expected to fo for the chairperson position even as Ruto allies plot a complete take over of the President Uhuru Kenyatta-led outfit that has been in leadership row over the last few months.
While confirming his interest for the seat, the seasoned politician said that he was keen to take over the full control of the party.
" I am running for the position of the chairman so that I can take full control of the running of the party," Washiali was quoted by People Daily.
" I want to be running things in the party, including making all decisions to be taken by the party. We have been very unhappy with how our party is being led," he added.
The legislator's sentiment comes at a time when the party's Secretary-General Raphael Tuju has come under sharp criticism over his alleged role to scuttle DP Ruto's presidential ambitions.
Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa has already declared that the former Rarieda lawmaker will be kicked out of the party.
