Having yellow teeth can cost you your confidence, esteem and make you shy away from smiling even if you want to.

As much as you can visit your dentist for teeth whitening services, it's important to know why your teeth tend to discolour.

Here are some of the reasons that cause this undesirable tinge;

Faulty diet

It's important to watch what you eat if you want to maintain pearly white teeth.

Tea, black coffee, red wine, soda, fizzy drinks, sauces, dark curries, berries are among the things that tend to stain and discolour teeth if used regularly and excessively.

The residue in these foods tend to stick on the surface of your teeth, tarnishing the enamel  and discolor it in the long run.

Smoking

If you smoke or chew products containing tobacco, there's a good chance your teeth have yellowish stains on its surface.

The nicotine and tar in tobacco is the reason why your teeth turn yellowish within a very short time. It's even worse if you're a heavy smoker because your teeth will eventually turn brown after some time.

Ageing

If you're not a smoker, not a drinker, you generally observe good oral hygiene yet your teeth is still turning yellow, the reason might be your age.

As you age, your teeth tend to turn yellow.

The enamel wears out making it thin, and as a result, this reveals the natural colour of the interior of the tooth(dentin) . The dentin is the second layer of the tooth, which basically makes up most of the tooth.
