Opposition leader Raila Odinga's mastery in public speaking yet again carried the day at Kiamugumo village in Kirinyaga during the wedding of Governor Ann Waiguru.
The former Devolution minister wedded her long time fiancee Kamotho Waiganjo in a ceremony that was conducted in Agikuyu tradition.
And while addressing the crowd, Mr Odinga left President Uhuru Kenyatta and other dignitaries in stiches when he made an indirect reference to 2022 politics.
"Sasa mimi nimefurahia kufika hapa. Niliskia Mumbi (Waiguru) alisema watu fulani wamemwambia akuwe running mate wao. Lakini mimi nimefurahia kwa sababu leo amepata walking mate," he said amid laughter.
(I am happy to be here today. I heard Mumbi saying that some people have approached her to be running mate. I am happy because she has found a walking mate too).
In May this year, the first term governor said that two of top leading presidential candidates have approached her to be their 2022 running mate.
“I have at least two offers for the deputy president position, but it is not the right time to name the parties,” she said in an exclusive interview with the Nation.
“I see my role as making sure the 10 counties that make up the Mt Kenya region get their rightful place in the next government. We do not want a boardroom appointee to lead the region, but rather a person who is the choice of the people,” she said.
Although she did not mention their names, Deputy President William Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga are believed to be front runners.
