Forces surrounding Deputy President William Ruto now say that the leader has no problem with the said looming constitutional amendments.
According to allies of the DP, the leader is ready for any form of change, as long as Kenyans are allowed to scrutinize it before its finally given the green light.
Belgut Member of Parliament Nelson Koech as quoted by the Star said that Ruto has nothing against reforms if need be, whether a return to the parliamentary system or introduction of prime minister slot.
Essentially, he says that they support any changes, provided that it does not include the introduction of a monarchy. This an indication that the DP has accepted the pressure from the changes front runners.
"At the end of the day, we are okay with any form of government they want as long as Kenyans are given an opportunity to have their say. When the push comes to shove, we will only reject a monarchy system," he said.
National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale, another close ally of the DP, reiterated that they have good numbers in parliament should the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) propose a Prime Ministerial position introduction.
Speaking in Thika on Sunday, the DP seemed to concur with remarks made by Koech, where he said that he will support any proposed changes if they are "people backed".
" Let us ignore those using threats to support the report whose content is not yet known. Every Kenyan should be given a chance to read and understand the report. That way, we will agree on how we will move forward together," he said.
This comes as a change of tact from the DP who initially poured cold water on the BBI, whose task force is set to hand over its report to President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday.
