Nyali fishermen were shocked on Tuesday morning after they found a man's body floating in the Indian Ocean.
Police said that the the middle-aged man from Kongowea, Mombasa County, had no scars to indicate a struggle before his demise.
The deceased, Evans Wekesa Wawire, worked as a security guard at Texas Security Company. His supervisor, Justus Ouma, revealed that Wawire went missing on Monday evening.
He left his home in Kongewea for his work station in Nyali but never reported to work.
“We tried calling him on phone, but both his cell phone lines were off,” Ouma told K24 Digital.
Police say that the cause of Wawire's death remains a mystery. However, they allege he might have been killed and his body thrown into the ocean.
Evans Wekesa Wawire’s body was taken to Coast General Hospital mortuary waiting a postmortem examination to reveal the cause of his death.
Meanwhile, some fishermen say that good management can reduce deaths at the ocean.
Speaking in July after some fishermen drawned, Mr. Abdallah Swaleh said divers need help from relevant stakeholders.
“Some of the risks we experience can be averted if there is a well-managed rescue team but if nothing is done to assist the team of the divers we have then we will continue hearing the same stories year in, year out,” said Abdallah Swaleh, a fisherman as quoted by Daily Nation.
