Embattled Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich seemed relaxed and ready to face his accusers in court when he was locked at Muthaiga police station, reports the Standard.
Mr Rotich was arrested on Monday morning before being driven to DCI headquarters over alleged embezzlement of Sh21 billion meant for construction of Kimwarer and Arror dams.
At Muthaiga police cells, a source said, Rotich spent most of the time chatting with PS Kamau Thugge, who is also facing similar charges before retiring. The cell is said to be equipped with a mattress and blanket.
Mr Rotich also took supper brought by family members on Monday evening. On Tuesday morning, the family also brought basic items for his preparations for court proceedings.
“He seemed relaxed and ready for anything. He and the PS understood, from their experience, why the police have been in need of money to construct and renovate police facilities,” said an officer who asked not to be named.
The defense team led by Kioko Kilukumi and Kipchumba Murkomen managed to successfully argue for bail, in a ruling made by anti-corruption Judge Douglas Ogoti.
According to Kilukumi, there was no need to lock the Treasury boss for the second night since he has been cooperating with investigati team ever since the matter was first raised.
"He has done everything that a suspect can do to help the investigators," said Kilukumi, an experienced lawyer.
Mr Rotich and Thugge were later released on Sh15 million cash bail and are expected to return to court in August for mentioning of the case.
The two are likely bro lose their jobs following President Uhuru Kenyatta's April declaration that all government officials charged in court will have to step aside.
