The party officials have announced that the party will instead be fronting its own candidate for the top seat, and is already in the process of searching for a presidential candidate.

Speaking on Thursday, the party's National Organizing Secretary Njagi Kumantha said that the party is eyeing forming the next government, and can only take a coalition as the final option.

“We decided that after 2017, we will put more efforts to regain control. We don’t want to join other parties or to go supporting other parties. The least we can take is a coalition and not supporting other parties like we did in 2017 where we supported Jubilee candidates,”  he observed.

The remarks come as the party plans to launch national tours to regain its footing, saying that they have scheduled tours of Tharaka Nithi, Isiolo, Meru and Embu counties.

Kumantha said that the party's county executive committees have been functioning well in 36 counties, and has picked former Roads Principal Secretary Irungu Nyakera as the Party Leader.

“We realised that this is a sensitive position since a party leader is the light of the party and we would want the right person to push the party forward. Mr Irungu Nyakera is quite vibrant," added Kumantha.
