The mother of five lost her father at the tender age of four years, before losing her mother way back in 1995 making her a total orphan at the age of 14 years.

“My mother died five days after I got saved. I did not wail for her as much as I did when my dad passed away. Despite her death, I was at peace because I was filled with the Holy Spirit. Some relatives even started saying that I had lost emotions for my mother because I had joined a funny church,” she said in an interview in Kisumu over the weekend.

The Telna Eyoo (Lead my Way) hitmaker said that she went to school until the Primary School level because of responsibilities that fell on her young shoulders as the firstborn in her family.

“Being the firstborn in a family of five, there were many roles I was playing in terms of assisting my mother while she was in the hospital. This affected my studies as I did not perform well in standard eight hence living school at that stage,” she told Hivisasa in an exclusive interview on Wednesday.

However, she does not regret the fact that she was not able to further in her education as much as she would have wished to.

“I am happy and contented because my children have gone to school,” said Esther who started recording gospel songs in 2012.

She has three albums to her name. Apart from her music, she runs a family electronics shop with her husband William Ogelo in Kisumu.

Some of her popular songs include Dala Nono, Nyasaye Yud Duong, Ng’amaloyi Onge and Taya Ruoth among others.
