The powerful minister is expected to plunge into elective politics, with sources indicating that he's a key figure in President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga's lineup.

In a span of six months, Dr Matiang'i has been able to bring on board a host of leaders who had initially endorsed DP William Ruto's bid.

Among those now supporting him include Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka, Kitutu Chache North MP Jimmy Angwenyi and Borabu MP Ben Momanyi.

Nyamira Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi also shifted loyalty to Dr Matiang'i. They had been pushing for Ruto's candidature.

But even with the progress, Matiang'i is yet to bring on board MPs Joash Nyamoko, Vincent Kemosi, Shadrack Mose, Alfa Miruka and Sylvanus Osoro.

The youthful Osoro has been particularly leading onslaughts against Matiang'i, accusing him of lacking ability to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Last week, the five hosted Deputy President William Ruto at North Mugirango, West Mugirango and Kitutu Masaba constituencies. Ruto visited on Friday and Saturday.

Already, Ruto has picked Nyamoko as his campaign coordinator in Nyamira County. Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi is in charge of Kisii region.
