Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga's recent mockery of the Punguza Mizigo amendment bill might have sealed it's fate, says Gilgil MP Martha Wangare.

This comes after Raila's numerous ridicule of the Ekuru Aukot-led push, referring to it as "Punguza Gunia" (reduce the sack), and urging Kenyans and county assemblies to reject it.

According to Wangare, this most likely means that he will do his best to ensure that the bill, which seeks to slash electoral representation, is dead the soonest possible.

"If you see Raila bashing something, for instance his terming of the Punguza Mizigo Punguza Gunia, then its headed nowhere (Ukiona Raila akibash kitu, kama vile amesema Punguza Mizigo ni Punguza Gunia, inamaanisha haiendi mahali)," she said on Radio Citizen's Jungu Kuu.

According to her, Kenyans will embrace or reject the bill as per the wishes of the leading politicians.

She said that despite claims that Kenyans are illuminated and can make independent decisions, they will at the end of the day act as directed by their political lords.

She added that the same is the case at the county assemblies where the bill has been tabled for consideration, terming Raila and President Uhuru Kenyatta as the people with the final say.

"Despite their remarks that they are illuminated, Kenyans will still be dictated on what to do.  Even the MCAs are relying on what Raila and Uhuru are saying (Wakenya hata wakisema wameerevuka bado watasomewa vile watafanya. Hata hawa MCAs wanaangalia Raila na Uhuru wamesema nini)," she added.

The Punguza Mizigo bill has since been passed by the Uasin Gishu County Assembly, ironically the home turf  Deputy President William Ruto, who appears opposed to the BBI push.
