Kisii County Police Commander Martin Kibet said the rider who was speeding collided head-on with a lorry.

"The rider who does not hail from Nyangororo was speeding when he lost control and collided head-on with an oncoming lorry carrying sand. Members of the public rushed him to Nyangena hospital but, unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on arrival," said Kibet who appealed to bodaboda operators across the county to adhere to road rules and ride with cautiousness to avoid similar accidents.

The body of the deceased whose identity is yet to be revealed was moved to Nyangena hospital morgue.

The police boss said the driver of the lorry and his assistant escaped unhurt.

"Riders should mind about their lives and ensure they are riding at recommended speeds failure to which accidents involving motorbikes will not end any time soon," said Kibet.

He further warned that bodaboda operators who will be found operating without safety gears will be arrested and prosecuted.
