It will be 30 years behind bars for a man 55 after he allegedly hacked his neighbour to death after a disagreement. The accused, Severino Mbaka caused the death of one Paskwale Mutegi, after hitting him with wood on June 20, 2018, as court learnt.
The unfortunate occurrence happened at Gitundu Village, Meru South after Mbaka attacked the late Mutegi on allegations that he had severally been stealing his miraa.
The postmortem results conducted on Mutegi's body revealed that he died of the fractured skull following the attack. Delivering the judgement, judge Robert Limo noted how the court had Mr Mbaka as a violent person, who went an extra mile to serve threats to the late Mutegi's wife.
Judge Limo also noted with concern how the accused had all along with the hearing, posed an attitude of one who was never bothered, without having in mind the welfare of the bereaved family of late Mutegi.
"The court has found the accused guilty of murder and sentences him to 30 years in prison. He has 14 days to appeal the judgement if not content," judge Limo noted.
Limo stated that the court had hopes that the 30 years would shape the accused into a better person, while at the same time Mutegi's family live in relief as they were always afraid of being attacked by Mr. Mbaka.
