The ruling Jubilee party on Monday announced that it will field a candidate to contest in the November 7 Kibra by-election.
Through its Secretary General, the party has urged interested persons to send applications to Jubilee’s National Elections Board.
“Our analysis and consultations confirm that our Jubilee Party is competitive enough in the forthcoming political contest. It is noteworthy that the neighbouring Lang’ata Constituency was won by Jubilee Party candidate contrary to conventional political analysis,” said Mr Tuju as quoted by K24.
Speaking on Sunday, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party vowed to only allow loyal candidates to take part in the primaries. Odinga also asked Kibra voters to carry out peaceful nominations and urged losers to accept defeat.
“On Tuesday they will be vetted by the party to establish whether they are loyal members of the party or they have just come to contest. We want the exercise to be done in a peaceful environment because we want to show the country that Kibra is mature politically. If you don't win it is not the end of your political career," Raila said as reported by Daily Nation.
The announcement complicates what was assumed to be an easy ride by Raila Odinga's ODM.
