There was confusion as residents of Athens, assembled for safety following a 15-minute powerful tremor.
The same happened on Friday when a 5.1 magnitude tremor hit the North-Western part of the Greek city, leaving behind a wave of destruction.
Athenians rushed to leave all buildings in the course of the earthquake that was followed by a strong aftershock of 4.3, which is the strongest in history.
Witnesses said that the earthquake was more like an explosion, with others expressing fears following the unusual happening.
"It was a very intense quake. We were terrified," Katerina, a local, said.
However, no serious injuries were recorded, except a woman who was slightly injured by falling plaster, in one of the buildings.
The incident also destroyed some buildings and power and communication lines, cutting off power supply and connection.
Head of earthquake protection agency Efthymios Lekkas called for calm, noting that earthquakes, is a common thing in the area, buildings are built to endure them.
"There is no reason for concern. The capital's buildings are built to withstand a much stronger earthquake," he said.
