Speaking on Saturday, he predicted that though there will be a referendum before the 2022 general elections, it won't be the bill, but rather the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) one.

Again, he noted that though the push being led by ODM boss Raila Odinga had been disguised as an attempt to enhance cohesion, it is a preparation for the 2022 polls.

"There is gonna be a constitutional amendment targeting 2022. Of course that constitutional amendment will not be from the Punguza Mizigo initiative, beautiful as it may be, popular as it may be, it will be about the BBI," he said.

He made the observation on his weekly YouTube analysis channel Take It or Leave It uploaded on Saturday morning.

Manyora further noted that most people eyeing the presidency in 2022 are safer on the BBI side, urging them to jump on board, especially those whose bids appear weak.

According to Manyora, the likes of governors Alfred Mutua (Machakos) and Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) are better off on this side, if there are to prolong their political careers after retirement.

"Kibwana and Mutua should push for the changes in the constitution because these changes are likely to introduce regional governments and therefore they will be garmening to become the governor of Ukambani region," he said.

The referendum which also seems to enjoy the backing of President Uhuru Kenyatta seeks to further expand the government and return the parliamentary governance system.

On the other hand, Punguza Mizigo seeks to reduce elective representation.
