Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago launched one state of art water cleaning equipment ‘a water master’. He says the machine can float across large water bodies to extract, collect, mill and dispose of water weeds.
“This water master will be used to clean large dams across Uasin Gishu county with the 18 million litres Kerita dam set to be ready for use by the end of January 2020,” said the County boss.
Mandago who spoke to the press at Cheptiret Kipchamo ward when he officially launched the cleaning and reconstruction of Kerita dam on Wednesday said the machine can also suck silt from the dam bed and load into waiting trucks or onto the banks.
He said that his administration is poised to ensure that every household in the County can access clean piped water to prevent women from walking for long-distance looking for water.
“One of the promises I made was to ensure that rural households will access quality and affordable pipe water. We shall do this by cleaning our dams and pumping water using solar-powered technology," added the Jubilee second-term governor.
Mandago further said the machine makes Uasin Gishu county the second government agency to own such a machine after National Water and Pipeline Corporation. Uasin Gishu county has 350 dams which when cleaned will boost irrigation farming.
