Kibaki was controversially announced the winner by the then Electoral Commission of Kenya (ECK) Chair Samuel Kivuitu and sworn in at night by retired Chief Justice Evans Gicheru.

But Weda, also a commentator, now claims that Raila was the real winner, and won the race by rallying majority of the country and ethnic communities behind his bid.

Speaking on KBC English Service on Wednesday, he claimed that the former Prime Minister defeated Kibaki in strategy planning, as the retired President could not rally more Kenyans behind his candidature.

"In 2007 Raila defeated Kibaki because most communities rallied behind Raila and only a few were with Kibaki," said Weda.

He was addressing the census provisional results which were released on Monday, saying that while some communities came out too populous, no single group can win the presidency on its own.

Weda said that the candidate who will win will have to rally several groups behind them, which he said will also be hard as Kenyans are now shunning tribal voting.

"No single tribe or two can win the presidency. But the tribal voting is also fading away as people are facing the same hardships, whether your community is in power or not," he added.
