Police in Eldoret have arrested seven people accused of engaging in car theft in Eldoret Town.
According to Uasin Gishu County Commander Johnston Ipara, the officers made the arrest after receiving a tip-off from members of the public.
“I want to confirm that yesterday we arrested seven people in Uasin Gishu, Kericho and Bomet County who are involved in the business of stealing vehicles in Eldoret Town and Uasin Gishu County at large,” said the county commander.
Ipara who made the remarks while addressing journalists at the Eldoret Central Police Station on Monday said the suspects have allegedly been involved in the crime for the last one year.
“We also managed to impound eight vehicles in one of the suspects' homes in Litein. I urge those whose vehicles have been stolen to present themselves at the Eldoret Central Police Station,” added Ipara.
The seven suspects were identified as Isaac Sirma, Kiprotich Geofrey, Hillary Kiplangaat, Alfred Kimutai, Tonny Langat, Peter Kibet and Elkana Kipchumba.
Ipara further revealed that police officers will conduct investigations into the crime before the seven suspects are arraigned in court.
He reiterated that police will continue with the fight against car theft until those involved in the crime in the county and its neighbouring environs are arrested and face the full force of the law.
