The English Premier League (EPL) transfer window is over until January, although not safe for the clubs and unsettled players like Kenya captain Victor Wanyama, following a unanimous vote.
The transfer deadline was moved from August 31 to a day before the EPL season kicks off after a vote by clubs.
EPL starts on Friday with Liverpool hosting Norwich City. This means that English football league, Spanish, German, French and Scottish clubs are still able to sign players until the end of the month.
The reason for closing the transfer market earlier than previous seasons was reached by both EPL and EFL in order to avoid disruption to the opening weeks of the season. Italy's Seria A also buys to the idea and as a result, its window closes on August 23.
Albeit, this is dangerous for EPL clubs as they can lose their key players to leagues whose transfer window will be shut on September 2, without being able to sign a replacement till short January transfer period. Where such a period is not good for business as clubs tend to hike the price of its key players.
In addition, the move means players like Victor Wanyama are not off the hook as they can be sold to a potential bidder until the other leagues' window closes next month.
For now, Wanyama has survived amidst speculation regarding his future thanks to his nagging injury and early EPL transfer window shut down.
The transfer window or registration period had been adopted by most European leagues though, in the 2002 - 2003 season, FIFA compelled clubs to register players with it and that such period should be observed to avoid agents searching deals throughout the year and bring stability and cohesion in the registration of players and avoid vague deals.
