Kathiani Deputy County Commissioner Kennedy Nyamboga has trashed the decision by the county government through the ministry of public health to close Kikunuani primary school over lack of toilets.
Speaking on Friday Nyamboga asked parents to bring back their kids on Monday stating that his office was not involved during the decision.
He said that the pupils should continue with education as the problem to do with toilets is being sorted out.
"This issue about public health as the chairman for the education board I wasn't consulted. We have consulted with education officials and agreed the school should be opened on Monday. The issue will be solved as learning is ongoing," said Nyamboga.
Nyamboga spoke has he addressed parents of the school.
His sentiments were shared by Kathiani member of parliament Robert Mbui who said that the pupils can continue using the remaining toilets and toilets in the nearby churches.
"We were finding a solution and we have found one. We have a Salvation Army church, ABC and a nearby dispensary and in the school, there are six toilets so in total sixteen toilets will be available for the pupils," said Mbui.
Kikunuani primary school was closed indefinitely on Thursday by public health officials over lack of enough toilets.
Parents of the more than 300 pupils had staged demonstrations decrying lack of toilets. The claimed that the facilities had cracks thus posing danger to kids.
