The dreams of 28 bright but needy pupils from Nakuru West sub-county will be kept alive thanks to the Huda Integrated Schools’ sponsorship programme.
The programme will see them sail smoothly through their primary and secondary school.
Speaking over the weekend at Nakuru West Secondary school where interviews were conducted to select the beneficiaries of the scholarship, Charles Dulo from Luo Development Forum Nakuru said the programme will run from class seven up to university.
Dulo who is the community liaison person for the programme lauded the Nairobi-based Hudah Integrated Schools for uplifting the standards of education in slum areas.
According to Dulo, those who will pursue the studies up to university will be absorbed in the sponsor schools once they complete their studies.
“These are bright but needy pupils and they will be sponsored up to university level. Those who will take education at the university will then come back and teach in the sponsor schools,” said Dulo.
Nakuru Women Caucus Chairlady Keziah Akinyi who played a key role in identifying the needy pupils on her part challenged the government to ensure no student is left behind in terms of education.
According to Akinyi, despite the government having bursaries, not all needy students are reached especially in the rural areas.
“We have realized we have so many needy students whom the government is not reaching out and therefore something has to be done," she added.
Similar sentiments were echoed by Vincent Omollo from Reproductive Health, Youth Friendly and Environment –RHYFE organization championing for the rights of youths.
He says as an organisation, they are committed to working with both national and county governments and other stakeholders to promote education in the community.
"As RHYFE, we will continue working with other stallholders on matters education," Omollo observed.
