Deputy President William Ruto has sent his congratulatory message to the Kenya Women Football team, Harambee Starlets after winning a match against Tanzania women team in the Cecafa championship.
In a tweet on Monday evening, the second in command of the country hailed the young ladies for their tremendous performance.
''Outstanding performance by our Harambee Starlets for thrashing Kilimajaro Queens 2-0, dethroning them to be the 2019 CECAFA winners. Claiming the regional title with an unbeaten record without conceding a goal throughout the competition, is no mean feat; congratulations Champs!'' said William Ruto.
Harambee Starlets defeated all their opponents in the competition and have been able to maintain a clean sheet to the end of the championship without a conceding a goal.
This is the first time Kenya has won the Cecafa women championship after making a come back from a loss of 2-1 to Tanzanian at a previous encounter at the finals.
Apart from winning the competition, the individual players also won awards.
Annedy Kundu, the Starlet's goalkeeper was named the best goalkeeper of the tournament having conceded no goal.
The team has been promised a heroic welcome back into the country before they proceed for a luncheon at the Utalii Hotel.
They will be received at the airport, through Mombasa Road into the Central Business District before driving via Thika Super Highway to Utalii Hotel.
