Friends and members of the public have been advised to limit their visitation to Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso's hospital bed, a letter from the Governor's office has said.
For three months now, the former Sotik MP has been battling a disease, a move that saw her move to London and later to India to seek medication.
She returned to the country three weeks ago. Deputy Governor Dr Hillary Barchok has been holding brief for her, and he's expected to carry on for a little bit longer.
On Monday, Governor's communication team confirmed that she was responding well to treatment, adding that doctors had recommended enough bed rest.
In the statement, Laboso acknowledged goodwill messages from members of the public, adding that she had responded well to treatment.
"The office of the Governor would like to reassure the residents of Bomet and the general public that Her Excellency Dr Joyce Laboso is recuperating well and is still under doctor's observation
"The governor acknowledges overwhelming Goodwill messages and prayers from Kenyans as she responds well to treatment. The governor's doctors have recommended her enough rest for speedy recovery and advise on limited visitation," said the letter, signed by Director of Communications Ezra Kirui.
Neither Dr Barchok nor the family is yet to disclose Governor Laboso's ailment. A government source claims that she is under treatment for early cancer. The claims cannot be independently established.
She was first elected as Sotik MP in 2008 after the death of her younger sister Lorna Laboso on ODM ticket. She successfully defended the seat in 2013 on ODM.
In 2017, she defeated Dr Julius Kones in Jubilee party primaries before beating CCM leader Isaac Ruto in the hotly contested gubernatorial race.
