In an exclusive morning interview on Royal Media Services-owned  Citizen Television, Mr Mwendwa revealed that the federation was forced to fork out a whopping 800,000 shillings so as to secure Olunga a business ticket.

He said that the Ministry of Sports currently being stewarded by Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed only issued the player with an economy class ticket.

Olunga politely declined to travel on the economy class and given his stature as a player Nick Mwendwa decided to procure a business class ticket to ensure that Olunga features in the game in Cairo, an AFCON 2021 qualifier, against the Pharaoh's of Egypt.

"Michael Olunga flies 20 hours, from Kashiwa to Cairo, and we have been paying, those are things that people don't know, more than 800,000 shillings for Michael Olunga every time he flies to Kenya on business because we cannot fly him for more than 18 hours in economy to come and score goals, " Nick Mwendwa said. The revelation comes just days before the Harambee Stars take on Egypt and later on Togo.

The Ministry of Sports has come under blistering criticism for the treatment that the national sides have been subjected to.
