A jobless Princeton University graduate has been found guilty of killing his father.
30-year-old Thomas Gilbert junior had been charged with murder after it was alleged that he had shot his father Thomas Gilbert Senior in the head. The incident took place at the latter’s home back in 2015.
The accused is reported to have made the move to end his father’s life after his weekly allowance was reduced from $1000 to $300 by the father.
According to Thomas Gilbert Junior’s attorney, his client did not have a comprehension of the gravity of his actions as a result of suffering from schizophrenia and other psychiatric disorders.
The jury, however, threw out the insanity argument. The attorney nonetheless plans to appeal.
The prosecutors, on the other hand, believed the accused had both the motive and opportunity to commit the crime. The prosecutors argued that the cut of his weekly allowance from $1000 to $300 was enough motive for Thomas Gilbert to commit the crime.
Thomas Gilbert Junior will be sentenced on 9th August. He could get life in prison on the murder charge.
