Suna East MP Junet Mohamed has defended ODM leader Raila Odinga's approach to contemporary politics, following his decision to work with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In March last year, Mr Odinga reconciled with President Uhuru Kenyatta, a move that caught many of their lieutenants unaware. The two have since developed a close working relationship.
With opposition politics being neutralised, Mr Mohamed, who was speaking at Riokindo High School, said President Kenyatta was on the right track in war against corruption.
According to him, the opposition team only focuses on important issues that affect people, adding that 'they are not ready to carelessly oppose the government'.
"I have seen in newspapers paper saying that we don't have opposition, that we are asleep. What should we do when there is development going on, the president is also doing pretty good job? We used to do constructive opposition. We are seeing people being arrested for stealing," he said.
The second term MP hailed President Uhuru Kenyatta for appointing Dr Fred Matiang'i as chair of powerful Cabinet Committee on implementation of projects, arguing that it was honour to Nyanza people.
Further, he said, ODM was tired with opposition politics, adding that Deputy President William Ruto had already prepared well to take over opposition in 2022.
"The president has also given Dr Matiang'i, our son some big job. What do you want us to oppose? We stopped opposing carelessly. There are some people now preparing to join opposition and we wish them well. There is nowhere it was said that ODM should be in opposition. We are tired with opposition," added Junet.
Dr Matiang'i was the chief guest at Riokindo High School during a fundraiser that saw several leaders accompany him. He had earlier launched construction of Matutu Police Station in Nyamira before commissioning Kisii immigration offices.
Governor John Nyagarama, James Ongwae led a host of leaders in the function. Notable among them are John Mbadi, Millie Odhiambo and Gladys Wanga, all close allies of Raila Odinga.
The leaders backed Dr Matiang'i, with local leaders urging him to declare bid for 2022 presidential election. Dr Matiang'i however, steered clearly off politics.
