In an interview with Citizen TV on Tuesday, Senator Orengo termed IEBC a "criminal enterprise" and called for its disbandment.

Senator Orengo argued that the IEBC was found culpable of violating the law during the Supreme Court presidential petition of 2017.

Through corporate affairs, the commission, however, on Wednesday rubbished the claims, adding that it is being used as punching bag.

Orengo, IEBC said, should consider resigning since he was elected in an exercise conducted by the Commission.

"The remarks by Senator Orengo that IEBC is a Criminal enterprise that can be disbanded at will is an insult and disrespect to the Constitution. He's an elected senator who is therefore a product of the same Commission," IEBC said in a tweet.

"If indeed he stands by his statements, he should resign honorably to gain moral ground to criticise an institution which oversaw his election to the Senate."

The Building Bridges Initiative report which was handed to President Uhuru Kenyatta recently recommended for the disbandment of the electoral body.

But in a rejoinder, Wafula Chebukati, the chairman of the commission, insisted that IEBC is a constitutional body which cannot be hounded out of office without due process of the law.
