The United States Ambassador to Kenya Kyle McCarter On Friday said that the Nairobi-Mombasa expressway project will be beneficial to Kenya.
McCarter refuted claims that the project will put the country into deeper debt.
“This project by a world-class U.S. company will provide the best engineered solutions for Kenya’s infrastructure needs at a lower price than competitors and for far better value. Furthermore, doing business with a U.S. company helps combat corruption through the anti-bribery provisions of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act,” the envoy said as quoted by Citizen Digital.
McCarter pointed out the US government is determined to fulfil President Donald Trump’s shared pledge to Kenya concerning making the roads great.
The sentiments come after concerns on whether the country could afford the Sh300 billion project.
According to McCarter, the project will not put Kenya into a deeper debt arguing that the project is an investment for the country.
In a bid to improve transportation in the country, the government wants to build the Nairobi-Mombasa expressway project.
The expressway project caused a public uproar after the government hinted on hiving off Uhuru Park to pave way for the project.
