Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i on Friday hailed President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga for striking a deal for the sake of peace.
The Interior boss, who caught himself on the wrong book of the opposition in 2017, said he's the greatest beneficiary of the handshake.
Matiang'i said leaders can meet freely without police intervention, adding that he usually consults opposition leaders.
“The handshake between the President and Raila has changed Kenya. There are no more tear gas whenever political leaders meet. I am one of the beneficiaries of the handshake because I can now speak freely with opposition leaders and seek wise counsel from them,” Matiang'i said during the BBI meeting in Kisii.
Matiang'i had joined Raila in Kisii during the consultation for the Building Bridges Initiative report, which brought together Nyanza leaders.
He lauded Mr Odinga for organising the forum, arguing that it had brought all communities from Nyanza together.
“This is historic. This is the first time we are meeting as Nyanza to speak with one voice as a people. Nyanza is now truly one. I want to thank Raila because he has united us as a family. Whatever happens, never again should we see each other differently,” Matiang'i said.
Ironically, police lobbed teargas at MPs Ndindi Nyoro and Alice Wahome at Kilimani Police Station where they were addressing the media after the arrest of Moses Kuria on Friday.
