Kenya national women soccer team Harambee Starlets shared spoils with Ghana's Black Queens in a scoreless first leg match of the 2020 Olympic qualifiers. The match was played on Friday at Accra sports stadium.
Black Queens had no answer for the Starlets at the front of the home crowd despite dictating the proceedings even as the visitors proved a hard nut to crack, before forcing the match to a 0 - 0 tie, thanks to the Starlets shot-stopper, Annette Kundu.
Starlets skipper, Dorcas Shikobe had hinted before departure, that they will go to defend first and as it turned out, the result was great improvement for the Starlets after losing to Black Queens 3 - 1 during the AWCON tournament held in Ghana.
The onus is now to the Starlets coach, David Ouma to play his cards well and try not to concede at home as both teams have all to play for and will have to work on their striking force ahead of the return leg, slated for 8th, October in Nairobi.
In case, Starlets prevail they will play the winner between Zambia and Botswana in the second-last round of the qualifiers with one slot up for grap. While the runners-up will meet South America opponent in the Olympic play-off qualifier berth.
