At least 13 people lost their lives in a fatal accident in the wee hours of Friday morning
The victims were involved in an accident along Kericho-Kisumu highway at Pala, a few kilometres from Awasi, Kisumu County when an Eldoret Express company bus collided head-on with a lorry.
According to the Kenya Red Cross, 35 other passengers were left with injuries.
"13 people feared dead & 35 casualties with multiple injuries evacuated to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching & Referral Hospital(JOOTRH), Awasi Mission Hospital & Hope Medical Hospital by @EMS_Kenya." Kenya Red Cross noted
The bodies of the 13 who perished in the accident have been transported to Ahero Hospital mortuary.
Kisumu County Police Commander Benson Maweu further confirmed that they had counted 13 bodies by around 2:30 am on Friday.
"The bus was travelling from Kisumu towards Kericho on the Kisumu-Nairobi Highway when the driver tried to overtake a cane tractor and was involved in a head-on collision with the trailer," Mr Maweu said
