The anti-graft body has given the former county boss up to 14 days to comply with the requirement failure to which auctioneers will be sent to his homes to collect the said amount. The commission claims that the said cash was lost in illegal payments to a law firm.

In a letter seen by Daily Nation dated September 12, 2019, EACC has given Dr Kidero and his accomplices 14 days to respond accordingly before another step is undertaken.  The letter was drafted by EACC chief executive officer Twalib Mbarak, who is tasked with the prosecution of the case.

“We hereby demand against yourselves jointly and severally payment of the sum of Sh68 million in restitution, being Nairobi City County funds fraudulently paid and received,” the EACC letter reads.

The commission wants the former governor to pay Sh14.4 million. His other accomplices who are also expected to pay the same amount are John Ngari Wainaina, George Wainaina Njogu and Cups Ltd.

EACC has also ordered former Nairobi mayor John Ndirangu to pay Sh18.9 million, Hannah Muthoni Kariuki (Sh11 million), Paul Mutunga (Sh7 million) and Cups Ltd (Sh600,000).

The order comes after Kidero filed for the dismissal of the case against him terming it a political witch hunt.
