Speaking on Inooro TV Monday, the legislator contended that the biggest problem that the Mount Kenya region is facing is too much politicking as opposed to focusing on development.

He identified the problem as the reason why the region still not where it deserves to be in terms of development in spite of having presidents from the region for over two decades.

He said that Mt Kenya leaders "wake up politicking" giving reference to the recent BBI consultative forum in Kakamega.

"I saw people from far going to Kakamega, I was in Ndaragwa thinking on how to rear goats from Germany," he added.

"If the people of Ndaragwa in three years will have started rearing goats because I am not going to Kakamega and I am working at my constituency..2022 I will come out and say  “I think I am the person we have always said we will elect after five years” who will be on the front?"

Kioni urged the leaders and the people of the Mount Kenya region to focus more on development instead of engaging in politics.

The region has produced three presidents since independence.

Jomo Kenyatta, Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta, Kenya's first, third and fourth head of state respectively, are all from the region.

Given its population, it remains instrumental in determining the direction the political direction of the country.
