Plans are in their final phases ahead of a scheduled renaming of the City Stadium in Nairobi to Joe Kadenge, in honour of departed soccer legend Joe Kadenge.
This is according to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga who made the revelations during a fundraiser towards the burial of the celebrated retired football player on Tuesday.
Raila says that he has since made the proposal to President Uhuru Kenyatta and Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko who has granted the request, which, he said, will soon happen.
"Joe was a legend, and this is why I proposed to President Kenyatta on the possibility of renaming City Stadium in his honour," he said.
We have spoken with Sonko and he has agreed to fast track the process," he added, according to his Orange Democratic Movement Director of Communication Philip Etale.
Raila said that a series of events will be held to mark the changes, adding that Uhuru has as well agreed to hand over Kadenge's South B house to his family as per his wishes before death.
"It was Kadenge's wish that the house in Mariakani estate be handed over to him and that wish has been granted by the President," he added.
Raila gave a Sh1 million contribution, in a function that was also attended by among others, Amani National Congress (ANC) boss Musalia Mudavadi and Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi.
