The International Criminal Police (Interpol) on Thursday stated that the victims of the Ethiopian Airlines crash have been identified.

The exercise involved almost 100 Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) experts from 14 countries in Africa, America and Europe. 

“In the wake of such a tragedy, the accurate identification of the victims is of immense importance to the families who are suffering from their loss,” said Interpol Secretary General Jürgen Stock.

The accident that took place on March 10, 2019, claiming the lives of 157 passengers. 

According to reports from the management, these people were from 35 different countries. 

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in conjunction with experts from some of the affected countries carrried out investigations.

“International cooperation and coordination is vital to these efforts, and this is where Interpol’s extensive experience provided significant value,” Stock added. 

The exercise was conducted according to the international DVI standards, thus making sure that their results beyond doubt.

On Wednesday, families of those who perished in the accident held a vigil in Washington DC.

A Kenyan, Paul Njoroge was among them. He could be seen holding a picture of his family members whom he lost in the deadly accident. 

”While all your lives move on for the last six months, the lives of the families of the victims, my life has not moved an inch,” he stated plaintively.
