For seven years now, Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama has survived investigations and subsequent arrest by the DCI and DPP despite anomalies in the books of account.

In a report released by Auditor General on 2017/18, millions could not be accounted for and nothing is yet to be done by the investigation teams.

For instance, over Sh10 million was released to KTDA for construction of roads but report by Auditor General shows nothing was implemented.

During the same period, Sh70 million was allocated to the department of youths and gender but according to the reports, no project was implemented despite the disbursement.

The report also shows that development expenditure allocation was exceeded by Sh13 million but no proper explanation was given for the same.

Shockingly, Senate PAC Chairman Moses Kajwang' recently praised Governor John Nyagarama for prudence in financial management, adding that he should be emulated.

"Nyamira is my neighbour and is one of the best run counties. Other counties should borrow a leaf from the governor," Kajwang' said in a statement that caused uproar.

Former Kitutu Masaba MP on Sunday accused Senate of incompetence, arguing that there is a possibility of being paid to shield governors.

"There is something that is happening in the Senate. It's weird that Auditor General points out such issues but the Senate doesn't see," he said.

Activist Reuben Kibegwa, who has petitioned Senate over the alleged fraud in Nyamira, accuses DCI and DPP of doing little to nab the governor.

"We have even tried to submit evidence but nothing happens. Maybe they are paid to spare him," said Kibegwa, whose petition is yet to be heard.

Nyagarama on his part has often accused his political competitors of allegedly tainting his administration as corrupt, adding that he's clean.
