Mwakwere commonly known as ‘Zipapa’ has remained silent raising questions on his political plans ahead of the 2022 general election.

The former Cabinet Minister lost in 2013 and 2017 Kwale gubernatorial election to Salim Mvurya.

Since his tenure as Matunga Member of Parliament, Mwakwere has struggled to make a comeback to active politics.

As the 2022 succession politics takes shape, the former MP is likely to make an attempt to active politics but does he have a chance of a political comeback in 2022?

Former Kenya’s ambassador to Tanzania can use his political experience to make a comeback. With Mvurya serving his final term in office, he is among favourites to succeed him.

Mwakwere can take advantage of ODM's dominance in Kwale politics to stage a comeback.

In his likely attempt to stage a comeback in 2022, he should consider rejoining the Raila Odinga-led ODM Party.

In 2017 election, he unsuccessfully contested the Kwale governor seat on Wiper Democratic Party.

It will not, however, be easy for him if he makes an attempt for the governor seat as he is likely to encounter other serious contestants.

Kwale Woman Representative Zuleikha Juma is also said to be eyeing the governor seat. A close ally of ODM leader Raila Odinga, Juma is the Orange party’s point-person in Kwale politics.

Governor Mvurya is yet to hint on his possible successor but sources say he is grooming his deputy Fatuma Achani for the seat.

It is said that Mvurya enjoys a good working relationship with his deputy.
