Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has asked Kenyans to prepare for major political constitutional changes before the much anticipated 2022 general elections.

Speaking on Wednesday, the county boss hinted that the changes will have a major effect on the presidential election, where she predicted that the current system will be abolished.

She said that unlike now that a presidential candidature includes an aspirant and running mate, the changes will introduce bigger teams in top seat races, hinting at an expanded executive.

Therefore, Waiguru cautioned people harbouring presidential ambitions in 2022 against making early conclusions, stating that major changes will come into existence before the time.

"You can't start talking about a race that will be completely different from the races that we have known in the past. You know in the past we have known only two candidates; a president and a deputy, running against another president and deputy. It's not going to happen like that again," she said on KTN's Pointblank.

According to the governor, the new setup will bring onboard more inclusive teams for a more united country after the poll.

"Going into the future we are going to change and see a more inclusive unity and teams that are more national," she added.

Waiguru has been among the leading supporters of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), which has been hailed as the avenue towards national changes through constitutional amendments.

However, in its report released last month, the BBI taskforce never recommended any changes on the top leadership and neither did it propose the introduction of any extra executive seat.
