Abusive relationships have been happening in the recent days and some have contributed to suicide and homicides. People of all races, religion beliefs and education levels have found themselves in abusive relationships and may find it hard to escape the ordeal.
Apart from deaths, abusive relationships can result to low self-esteem, physical harm and unforgettable memories which can impact negatively to one's future.
The following are ways to leave an abusive relationship;
1. Connect with family and friends
Social support is quite paramount in one's life. Being able to have loved ones who you can cry to for an assistance is quite helpful.
Ensure you talk to them on what's going on and be honest about it as they will always be there for you and you will be assured of their care once you leave.
2. Pack an emergency bag
In some cases, escaping an abusive partner happens as a last minute decision when things get worse. However, most are the times abused partners plan to leave before they actually go.
To leave your abusive partner, pack your emergency bag with your essential belongings such as clothing, any legal documents, money or anything you might need. Leave the bag with a trusted friend or a neighbour.
3.Once you leave, refuse any contact
The moment you leave your abusive partner, do not respond to texts or phone calls. Your partner will seek a way to punish you for leaving once they get hold of you.
