Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruyoit has expressed annoyance after allies of Deputy President William Ruto were slapped with conditions for attending the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), rally in Mombasa on Saturday.
In a press conference on Wednesday, National Assembly Minority Whip Junet Mohamed said the Tanga Tanga leaders were welcome to the meeting, but cautioned them against causing chaos or disruption.
“But if they are coming to attempt to undermine the meeting or cause chaos, then we are prepared for them. But if they are coming in good faith then we are welcoming them just like other Kenyans because this is an open public meeting,” Junet said as quoted by Nation.
The Suna East MP was flanked by Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja and Kieni MP Kanini Kega, who also welcomed their Jubilee colleagues allied to Tanga Tanga to the Mombasa meeting, but noted they must attend with “respect and decorum ready to engage in the debate of uniting Kenyans”.
Reacting to the sentiments, Cheruiyot told off the leaders saying it was not their role to invite guests to the Coast, but it was a prerogative of the residents.
He wondered why they were being curtailed from giving their views freely, when President Uhuru Kenyatta had said all opinions on BBI were equally important and welcome.
"But why would my good friends Sakaja and Junet usurp Mombasa people's power to invite guests into their city? H.E Uhuru was categorical, no views are inferior. So why purport to regulate what we can say or not? Tuwacheni Ubroker jameni! (Let's stop being brokers)" the Senator tweeted.
