The deputy president Dr William Ruto has hit out at his political adversary, veteran opposition and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga.
In a barbed tweet on Saturday, the country's second in command said that the Raila-led party recruited goons to mete out violence on other parties.
He doubled down on the claim that ODM had not learnt anything from the handshake.
"The ONLY strategy and structure Tinga's party had which largely succeeded was, violence, chaos, mayhem & terror meted out by organized baba's militia the same instruments used by terrorists organizations including outlawed groups. How sad they have learnt nothing from handshake!" The deputy president wrote.
DP Ruto's intervention comes in the wake of the victory of the ODM candidate in the hard-fought Kibra by-election that saw the governing Jubilee candidate, former Harambee Stars forward McDonald Mariga come second.
The Kibra campaigns were seen as a dress rehearsal for 2022 presidential politics with scores of political commentators saying that it was a proxy war between Raila and Ruto.
Ruto descended on the ODM turf during the campaigns to drum up support for the Jubilee candidate.
Mariga conceded defeat after the by-election when it became apparent that the ODM candidate had prevailed.
Residents flocked to polling stations to elect their next parliamentarian on Thursday.
The official results were declared on Friday.
