A family in Ikombe, Yatta sub-county in Machakos county is mourning the death of its two siblings who were attacked by a crocodile in River Athi.
The two aged 12 and 8 fro Kalandini village were attacked by the reptile on Sunday.
According to the Standard, the deceased who were in class 5 and 2 pupils at Kyusyani primary school were attacked when they took livestock to a crocodile-infested river.
"We found one of the bodies at 7:30 am while the other was retrieved 9:30 about 2 kilometres down the stream after being swept by the water," said the children's uncle Peter Kivindyo after the bodies were recovered on Monday morning.
Mr Kivindyo added that the bodies have some missing parts which were believed to have been mauled by the reptile.
He narrated how the search for the bodies was thwarted by marauding hippopotamus which was chasing the locals during the operation.
Yatta sub-county Police Commander Joseph Karanja confirmed the incident and said that the two bodies have been moved to Matuu Level 4 Hospital mortuary.
