A top aide to Borabu MP Ben Momanyi has confessed being part of the team that organised demonstrations against Deputy President William Ruto on Saturday.
Youths carrying placards written 'Matiang'i must be respected' thronged into the streets of Nyamira, singing anti-Ruto slogans.
The DP had just left Tente SDA Church in Nyamira and was headed to Gekano Parish for yet another fundraiser in the neighboring Kitutu Masaba.
Protestors temporarily blocked Kisii-N-Nyamira highway, forcing police officers to intervene. The running battles lasted for a couple of hours.
"We had to organize that so that they can feel our presence. It's wrong for them to demean other leaders whenever they host rallies," the aide said in confidence.
According to him, protestors targeted MPs Joash Nyamoko and Vincent Kemosi, who are opposed to Mr Momanyi's gubernatorial bid in 2022.
After the protests, Mr Kemosi accused his political detractors and vowed to deal with them. He said they wanted to potray him in bad light.
"I was privy to the plan but I just knew they would be very few people. We know why they are scared but we shall handle that on ballot," he said.
Dr Ruto has earmarked Kisii and Nyamira Counties as some of the regions he will focus on to dethrone opposition leader Raila Odinga's influence.
