Kiambu County Governor Ferdinand Waititu is truly fit for impeachment, city lawyer Steve Ogolla has stated.
He said Members of County Assembly (MCAs) can go ahead and impeach the county boss after he was charged with corruption and barred from accessing office and until the case is concluded and determined.
"There's nothing political, illegal irregular and/or unconstitutional about Gov. Waititu's restricted access to office. Article 49(1)(h) in fact anticipates circumstances where bail may be totally denied, and accused person remanded in prison. Waititu is truly fit for impeachment," Ogolla said in a tweet on Tuesday.
Biashara Ward Representative Elijah Njoroge has already disclosed he is working on a motion to remove Waititu from office, exuding confidence it will pass once tabled in the County Assembly.
“I am working on the motion to impeach Governor Ferdinand Waititu because it is our work to initiate an impeachment as Members of the County Assembly. The motion is 70 per cent complete and will be presented to the County Assembly in the next two weeks,” Njoroge said as quoted by the Nation.
The MCAs recently impeached Majority Leader Anthony Ikonya and his deputy Alex Kabuu on allegations of going to bed with Waititu's administration.
Others who were removed on similar grounds were Chief Whip James Kimani Mburu and his deputy Margret Njeri Gatonye.
The Ward Reps are also contemplating to impeach Assembly Speaker Stephen Ndichu, who is also a close ally of the embattled Governor.
