A special committee has been formed by the Senate to investigate the impeachment of Taita Taveta Governor Granton Samboja.
Citizen TV reported that Senate Deputy Speaker Prof Kithure Kindiki had confirmed receiving a report from the Taita Taveta County Assembly showing that they had indeed impeached Governor Samboja on various grounds.
Some of the reasons which formed the basis for the impeachment included; gross misconduct, and failure to hold annual state of the county addresses.
Following the impeachment, the Senate formed a committee of 12 members to investigate the claims against the embattled governor.
The committe members include; George Khaniri, Njeru Ndwiga, Ochillo Ayacko, Beatrice Kwamboka, Aaron Cheruiyot, Charles Kibiru, Boniface Kabaka, Lelngwe Ltumbesi, Agnes Zani, Farhiya Ali, and Naomi Waqo.
The committee will give opportunity for other interested stakeholders to file their allegations which may help in the investigations.
Last week, the High Court issued a temporary order suspending the decision by the county assembly to impeach the embattled governor.
Governor Samboja was impeached after 30 out of 33 Members of County Assembly (MCAs) supported a motion tabled by Rong’e MCA Harris Keke.
