He was released on a cash bail of Sh800,000 or a bond of one million shillings with surety by the anti-corruption court.

The development was revealed by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on its Twitter handle on Wednesday.

"Kiamangi Ward MCA Mr Robert Kibe Githongo released on cash bail of Sh800,000 or bond of Sh1 million with surety by the anti-corruption court after he denied forging an academic certificate and making a false declaration to EACC," EACC tweeted.

The case against the cleric turned MCA will be mentioned on October 31, when the hearing date is expected to be set.

Kibe has strongly denied the forgery charges pressed against him by the anti-corruption body.

The EACC argues that the MCA forged his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) so as to enroll for a diploma course at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.
